These drawings were made, sheet by sheet, in the open air of our small property in Humpty Doo. They record trees that I have known for over 25 years - and most of them are far older than that. 2018 was our hottest year on record and the creek-side vegetation which had previously formed a 'green firebreak' became a conduit for a man-made wildfire. This started the destructive spiral from tropical woodland to savanna grassland. This country doesn't need fire, especially not fire fuelled by introduced grasses.  These trees, this landscape are unlikely to survive a change of ownership, the next drought or the next bushfire...
